International Youth Day: We introduce you to the Greiner Climate Checkers
Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World
The United Nations has designated August 12 as International Youth Day and has set this day for 2024 under the motto “Green Skills for Youth: Towards a Sustainable World”. We are taking this day as an opportunity to introduce you to the Greiner Climate Checkers.
We are aware that we can only achieve our sustainability goals with the support of all our employees. We are continuously working on new solutions and concepts for green growth. To achieve this, we rely on our know-how, which has grown over many decades, on the one hand, and on fresh impulses, courageous ideas and the drive of new generations, on the other. So what could be more natural than to anchor the topic of sustainability in apprentice training and make our talents of tomorrow fit for the future?
Greiner with the climate checkers
The “Klimachecker:innen” is an initiative of Klimabündnis Oberösterreich. The program started in May and will run until November 2023. Seven apprentices from the operating divisions and the AG are taking part and acquiring sound knowledge on the subject of climate protection. The kick-off took place with the apprentices’ participation in the Upper Austrian Youth Climate Summit. Another highlight was the meeting with our Executive Board as part of the Greiner Sustainability Conference. Since June, the participants have been working on a project for Greiner under the guidance of two external climate protection experts. The concept developed will be presented at an event in Linz on November 27. On this day, all participants will receive a certificate identifying them as climate checkers.
Info about the project of our climate checkers
In three workshops led by external experts from Klimabündnis Oberösterreich, our climate checkers are sensitized to the topic of climate protection. They are given extensive knowledge to question and change our company’s current way of working. With this background, a concrete climate protection project is developed for Greiner. Our apprentices have set themselves the goal of creating greater awareness among all employees.
Demeter – Greiner apprentices for the earth
Under this motto, our climate checkers are developing suggestions on how the Greiner sustainability strategy Blue Plan can be implemented by each individual in everyday life and what opportunities lie specifically in our consumer behavior. To this end, brochures are to be printed, a “mailbox for ideas” set up, and a climate roundtable organized once a quarter.
That’s behind the motto of this year’s Youth Day
The transition to an environmentally sustainable and climate-friendly world is critical not only to addressing the global climate crisis, but also to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A successful transition to a greener world will depend on the development of “green skills” in the population. This refers to the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes needed to live in, develop and support a sustainable and resource-efficient society.
